Living in the Word – Prayer Devotional for Perseverance
The definition of perseverance, according to Merriam-Webster is a continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition.
And perseverance is hard. Especially when the task at hand seems impossible. It is so much easier to throw in the towel and say, “I did good enough”.
But as Christians we are called for more. We are called to continually grow in our faith and in our character. Because we are God’s children and He wants what is best for us. As parents we don’t often let our kids give up or do mediocre work. Why? Because we know they are capable of so much more. God feels the same about each one of us. We are capable of so much more but we have to set our eyes on Him and have perseverance.
It can be daunting to live differently than our co-workers, neighbors, friends, and sometimes our family. But while we live in the world, we are called to not be of the world. Because we are made for more! Don’t give up!
And when we persevere and grow and develop in our faith, we also shine a bit brighter to the people around us.
Take the time to read the below bible scriptures and truly focus on what they are saying to you. Some passages may touch you differently than others. Writing down the verses in your own hand is helpful for some individuals. Possibly looking up the verses in your own bible may be beneficial. I use a NIV bible translation. Or reading them over and over to commit to memory. Whatever method works best for you to experience God’s words and feel closer to Him.
