Living in the Word – Prayer Devotional for Faith in God
The Merriam-Webster definition of faith is complete trust or confidence in someone or something.
Hebrews 11:1 also gives us a definition of faith, Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
So the combination is having complete trust and confidence in the God we cannot see and being settled in knowing that He has the ability to make all things happen!
Whew! That can feel like a tall order.
When I think of faith I’m reminded of my children as infants. They were quick to cry when they were in need. And at the same time they laughed with great delight at the littlest of pleasures. And then checked to make sure I saw their joy, too. My babies had the innate faith that I would provide for them and meet their needs. And because I did so consistently, their faith in me grew! They sought me in times of sadness and they wanted me to join in with their happiness.
Isn’t that the exact kind of faith that God asks us, His children, to have with Him?!
Let’s look at Jesus’ words:
Matthew 18:2-4 He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
So I ask you, are you crying out in faith to your Heavenly Father when you are in need? Are you sharing your joy with God because faith tells you that He placed that joy in your day today?
Take the time to read the below bible scriptures and truly focus on what they are saying to you. Some passages may touch you differently than others. Writing down the verses in your own hand is helpful for some individuals. Possibly looking up the verses in your own bible may be beneficial. I use a NIV bible translation. Or reading them over and over to commit to memory. Whatever method works best for you to experience God’s words and feel closer to Him.
Jeremiah 32:17
“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.
1 Chronicles 29:11-12
Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Your, O Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honor come form you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.
Lamentations 3:22-24
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”
Psalm 37:4
Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 73:23-24
Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.
Isaiah 40:28-31
Do you know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary, and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Psalm 33:18-22
But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you.
Psalm 62:5-8
Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
I sincerely pray that these verses meet you where you are today and lead you to have faith in God in all you do!

It really resonated with my soul.
God is our Heavenly Father and until we put all our trusts and faith in him, it would be difficult to establish a bond.
Your analogy of your kids was amazing. Really gave me something to meditate on.
And then the scriptures to read – reflect on.

Oh the Lamentations verse. People always think of Lamentations as the “sad” book of the Bible…but there is so much hope there! Thank you for sharing with me today. We all need to keep painting the picture of faith so it stays vivid.
