  1. Contentment is so elusive, Melissa, but when we focus on what God’s word says to us about these fleeting pursuits and His enduring love, we can grasp it. We can experience it. Thanks for reminding us to do that by looking to God’s word. Great thoughts, my friend! And so nice to meet you!

I’m so glad you stopped by. Contentment is certainly not a popular concept in society right now but I also believe that’s why we have so many people who are depressed and anxious on a daily basis. Thank you again for reading and commenting! God bless!

  2. This is such a struggle for all of us. I know I have often thought, “Why didn’t God give me more energy? Why don’t my adult kids act like so and so’s kid?” and on and on. I appreciate the verses and the reminder that I need to keep my focus on God and who He made me, for His purposes. Thanks for sharing. – Amy

We all get caught up in the ‘what if’s’ and ‘why not’s’ in life and it can become easy become discontent! Thank you for reading and commenting! God bless!

  3. This is so awesome. It’s important to keep these things in mind, especially in today’s digital world when everyone is sharing glorified versions of their lives online. I love when you talk about being content with your own life in the moment and how God wants us to grow spiritually and not necessarily in our material things. Such an important post! Also, thank you for the biblical references.

Thank you for the kind words! You are right, with technology making it easier for everything to be shareable and at our fingertips we can get lost in what really matters. Thank you for reading and commenting! God bless!

  4. I didn’t know about the real beginning of “keeping up with the joneses” but you drew such important conclusion from that term.
We try to envy others’ possession and followers(for bloggers) , and other materialistic things that we forget to store our treasures up in Heaven

It so true! We need to live outside of ourselves so that we don’t get bogged down by status and stuff. Thank you for reading and commenting! God bless!

  5. I have actually been reading over some of these scriptures recently. It’s true! We see what people want us to see. We should be happy and content in all we have been blessed with, whether it is in much or in little! Thank you for sharing all these passages with us, and thank you for reminding me of God’s hand in my life. Which is all that I need to be content!

I’m so glad the post was beneficial for you! Discontentment is so easy to fall into when we get focused on the world around us instead of on our Heavenly Father! Thank you for reading and commenting! God bless!

  6. I think looking at what we lack is part of our sinful human condition. In the Garden of Eden, Eve took the fruit because of what she lacked. I think just like Eve, Satan likes to point out to us what we don’t have because it affects our faith and keeps us from trusting in what God has given us.
    Great post!

That is such a great point and a trap that we can fall into too often if we don’t stay rooted in God and an attitude of gratitude! Thank you for reading and commenting! God Bless!

I’ve been working on setting my heart on things above! Reminding myself that this moment will pass or things are just temporary are so helpful when looking at the bigger spiritual picture.
