Our emotions are responses to our thoughts.
Our thoughts come from our understanding through past experiences, knowledge, and education.
But our thoughts also can be based upon lies. Lies we have heard from others. And lies we have come to believe ourselves.
Those thoughts, whether true or otherwise, lead to our emotions and ultimately our behaviors.
As a mental health therapist, often people enter my office based upon their distressing emotions and/or behaviors.
But for there to be change and growth, we have to delve into their thought processes to see where things have gone awry.
So when I find resources to help with this process, I get very excited!
Book Review: Battle Ready – Train Your Mind to Conquer Challenges, Defeat Doubt, and Live Victoriously
About the Author
Kelly Balarie is a speaker, blogger at purposefulfaith.com and author of the book Fear Fighting. She is also a featured blogger at Crosswalk.com and iBelieve.com. I so appreciate Kelly’s writing as she encourages women in a genuine and wholehearted manner.
Battle Ready: Book Structure
Battle Ready starts with a note from Kelly and some tips on how to read and use the book. Follow her tips!
The book addresses twelve battle-ready warrior mindsets that address each one of these “ity” words as Kelly calls them:
[one_half]
- Possibility
- Identity
- Sensitivity
- Activity
- Humility
- Objectivity
[/one_half]
[one_half_last]
- Bounce-back Ability
- Simplicity
- Eternity
- Positivity
- Intensity
- Impossibility
[/one_half_last]
At the end of each chapter, there are multiple practical and applicable topics to help you really understand the material having been addressed. Don’t skip these sections!
- A Mind to Conquer
- Prayer
- Enter Your Mind
- Examine Your Story
- Explore with Group Study
Throughout the book, there are also three intermissions where Kelly slows you down and provides some words of encouragement. I recommend taking a break after reading these intermissions. Take the time to allow the information to really sink in.
Final Thoughts on Battle Ready

The fact that our thoughts can be based on lies that we have somehow been led to believe is scary. This is one reason why it’s important for us to be transparent with mature believers in the body of Christ, so they can catch those lies at the beginning, so we don’t end up basing our thinking on lies for years. Otherwise it can lead to unnecessary sorrow.
Melissa
So very true Susan. It’s important that we have safe relationships with other Christians so we can be vulnerable enough to share with each other our struggles. That can be a humbling thing to do but so important. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. God bless!

The form for the raffle wouldn’t let me enter a comment, but here it is…
I definitely struggle with thinking I’m not good enough and that if I try to do something too hard, I will fail. I try to push past it. But my reaction to these thoughts is often fear.
I’d love to read the book, Battle Ready!
Melissa
This is such a common negative thought for women. However, remembering you are a daughter of the Creator of the universe and He loves you tremendously. Exactly as you are! Remember that! God bless!
Shelia Morris
My thought of not being enough to do everything when a stress situation happens. I still hear that voice saying, You are not good enough to do anything!” Shelia Morris
Melissa
Oh Shelia, I hope you are able to see that for what it is – a lie!
Heavenly Father, please help Shelia to experience your love in a tangible and intimate way that breaks her free from this lie. Open her heart to know how You see her. Amen!
God bless, Shelia!
