The year is officially three-quarters of the way over! I wrote a post at the quarter of the year mark and the mid-year mark, so I wanted to continue the process and guide you through three-quarters of the year checkup.
Three-Quarters Checkup – Goal
Did you make a New Year’s Resolution all the way back nine months ago or sometime random since them? Did you pick one word, or a phrase to guide your year?
As I described in the previous checkups, I decided to pick one word for 2018: Growth.
More important than the actual goal is why did you pick the goal? What was the intention and drive behind it? What were/ do you want from this goal?
My work on this blog shined a light into areas of my own life that I wanted to continue to grow in all areas of my life. And I wanted God to be the driver of my growth. To seek Him and His desires for all aspects of my life.
In reflecting upon your goal and your “why” behind it, is it still the goal you want for 2018? Do you need to change it or refine it? Even with only three months left of the year, that doesn’t mean your goals can’t be revamped or also started.
Three-Quarters Checkup – How’s it going?
Are you doing awesome at meeting and exceeding your goals? Or is this the first time you’ve thought of your 2018 goals since my last post in July, and that was the first time since sometime in February?
Were your expectations reasonable and so attainable or are you still fighting (or have given up) on reaching the first one?
With the goal of growth, I had broken it up into each area of my life: spiritual, personal (emotional and health), relational, career and blog.
As I’m sitting here reflecting on the past three months since the last checkup, I’m amazed at God’s continual refinement process in my life. Since July, God has shown me areas of my life that I wasn’t prioritizing correctly. Areas and dreams that I altered and skewed beyond God’s design.
For the past few weeks I have been working through Proverbs, and the following verses have stuck out to me.
Proverbs 16:9 (NASB) The mind of man plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.
Proverbs 16:25 (NASB) There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.
Proverbs 19:21 (NASB) Many plans are in a man’s heart, But the counsel of the Lord will stand.
Proverbs 20:24 (NASB) Man’s steps are ordained by the Lord, How then can man understand his way?
These four proverbs remind me how wayward our hearts can take us if we are not diligent in self-reflection and understanding God’s word.
2 Corinthians 10:5 (NKJV) casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
We are first and foremost called to love God well and seek Him well. That process is to be daily.
Three-Quarters Checkup – Forward Progress
Merriam Webster describes forward progress as moving forward or toward a place; the process of improving or developing something over a period of time.
As I previously stated, even though 2018 is three-quarters of the way over, that doesn’t mean you have to give up on re-starting, re-vamping, or developing goals. 2018 is not an isolated year; it is just a marker to help you acknowledge time. Don’t throw in the towel!
Continuing our Faith Journey
As Christians, we are called to become more like Christ. We are designed to stand out and stand apart. It is a continual journey to forward progress.
How does your 2018 goal fit into that ultimate vision?
Forward progress requires change for growth to happen. I’m forever thankful and grateful that we don’t have to navigate this messy life alone, but that doesn’t mean some days and weeks (or months and years) won’t be hard.
Don’t give up on becoming the person God designed you to be. Allow God to lead you in the areas He wants you to focus on. Because sometimes His desires for you are entirely different than what you envisioned.

Psalm 139:23-24 (NKJV)
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxieties;
And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.
God will guide you and show you all that you need to know to be more like Him if you open yourself up to seek Him and know Him.
I pray this three-quarter of the year checkup prompts you to reevaluate or establish for the first time your big, tremendous, fantastic vision for your life and then work backward to what you can do every since day to achieve it.
Also, I pray that you don’t allow the end of the year and the busyness of the season thwart you from searching for God’s guidance and taking just tiny steps to align yourself with Him.

Hi Melissa. So, what a good idea. I have not revisited my first quarter goals at all! I need to do a better job of tracking.
Melissa
Thank you, Rosemarie! We all can use a little motivation to revisit our goals. God bless!

I love these pointers, Melissa. I’m excited about this last quarter and have been reviewing my year so far to see how I’ve been doing. I appreciate that you encourage us to revisit goals to see if they’re still a good fit.
Happy to have been your neighbor at #MommyMoments linkup this week.
Melissa
Thank you, Marva! It’s always beneficial and important to track and intentionally reflect on how we are doing on our journey to become more Christ-like. God bless!

Melissa, time flies so quickly. And the last quarter of the year seems to fly the quickest. Thanks for this reminder to stop and evaluate where I’m headed and if I’m on track.
Melissa
The last part of the year does seem to click into warp-speed doesn’t it? Our growth can only take place if we acknowledge where we have been and the areas we need God to shine light into. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. God bless!

I didn’t really have a resolution or word this year, but I still appreciate the reminder to stop and reflect. Lately, I’ve been feeling like I’m not making the most of my time so I can do all God wants me to do. Maybe it’s time to set myself a resolution… Better late than never, I guess. 😉
Melissa
Definitely, Ashley. Goals don’t need to be made within the specific calendar year, it’s just easier to keep track.

So good, friend! It is so important to reevaluate and reprioritize often. Life changes so quickly… I shared on my facebook page this morning, but I couldn’t tag you or your page for some reason…
Melissa
Thank you, Liz and thank you for sharing. I don’t know why I couldn’t be tagged. Technology…and Facebook’s not much of a fan of me!
sue

Thank you, Lori! I know they are reminders I need, too. Many blessings back at you!
