The definition of forgiveness is the act of pardoning an offender.
Friends, we have that with God! Over and over He grants forgiveness when we repent. While we certainly should strive to be a better person and live for God everyday, we mess up sometimes. Daily, in fact. But there’s no limit to God’s forgiveness.
Let me be clear – God wants you to go to Him with your sins! God loves you!
There is no need to be embarrassed or ashamed. Shame is evil attempting to keep you from your Heavenly Father.
God will not turn you away. There is no sin too big for God and His love for you!
The bible has countless scriptural verses that describes God’s forgiveness for us that can reinforce this message far better than I can!
So please take the time to read the below bible scriptures and truly focus on what they are saying to you. Some passages may touch you differently than others. Writing down the verses in your own hand is helpful for some individuals. Possibly looking up the verses in your own bible may be beneficial. I use a NIV bible translation. Or reading them over and over to commit to memory. Whatever method works best for you to experience God’s words and feel closer to Him.
Isaiah 1:18
“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.
Psalm 32:1-2
Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.
Psalm 103:8-12
The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
Psalm 86:4-7
Bring joy to your servant, Lord, for I put my trust in you. You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you. Hear my prayer, Lord; listen to my cry for mercy. When I am in distress, I call to you, because you answer me.
Isaiah 55:6-7
Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.
Luke 7:47-50
Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.” Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
Romans 3:21-25
But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—
1 John 1:7-9
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Proverbs 28:13-14
Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. Blessed is the one who always trembles before God, but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble.
Colossians 1:13-14
For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Ephesians 1:7-8
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding,
Isaiah 44:22-23
I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist.
Return to me, for I have redeemed you.” Sing for joy, you heavens, for the Lord has done this; shout aloud, you earth beneath. Burst into song, you mountains, you forests and all your trees, for the Lord has redeemed Jacob, he displays his glory in Israel.
Acts 10:43
All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.
Acts 4:12
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.
Ephesians 2:8-9
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.
Micah 7:18-19
Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.
2 Corinthians 5:18-19
All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
I pray that these bible verses help you to understand and realize God’s forgiveness for you. Please be encouraged to seek Him and receive His forgiveness!
God bless!

I love each and every Bible verse that you have mentioned. It is so very important to “let go and let God.” I teach the youth at our Church and this has been the topic that I have been drilling into their heads. I am going to write a few of these down!!
melissa
I put so many verses in because I wanted God’s words to speak to everyone far more than mine! I’m sure the youth in your church are blessed by your love for God! Thank you for reading and commenting! God bless!

Forgiveness means to let go. That struck me. When we think about what people have done against us, if it still hurts, we are bitter. God can help us to supernaturally forgive unrepentant people and not experience pain but compassion that they are not right with God. I’m so glad that we ourselves, when repentant, are fully forgiven by God.
melissa
It is such a powerful thing to fully let go and give our pain and burden’s over to God. It is so freeing and healing to our spirit and at times also our mind and body. Thank you for reading and commenting! God bless!

Forgiveness is hard when you’re focused on your hurts, but when you focus on God’s forgiveness, it’s huge! If He can forgive my repetitive mistakes, I can forgive others better

Because God forgives me, I am driven to forgive those who have wronged me. How can He be gracious to me if I’m not gracious with others?

One can experience a manifold freedom when we confess our sins . Jesus can forgive us of our sins no matter how terrible and secretive they have been. He has thrown them into the deepest sea.

Thanks for reminding us that God can and will forgive our sins. My favorite part was the statement “There is no sin too big for God and His love for you.” It’s comforting knowing that, no matter what, I can still be loved by God and forgiven.

Dear Melissa!
The possibility of letting go is one of the greatest gifts we got through our Faith.
It’s a good point that we should strive to be better persons; sometimes we fail, and that’s when it’s good to know we have a forgiving God.
You have such a sweet, positive attitude in your blog post; I like that.
Also the way you structure the Bible verses you include; I think it’s all contributing to a better Christian online community.
Your blog helps me (and I believe other readers as well) to better understand God’s greatness.
Blessings!
