I was recently nominated by Alice Mills at http://poemachronicles.com for the Liebster Award. I greatly enjoy Alice’s blog and am therefore humbled that she would choose to nominate me. She writes in a way that showcases her theological knowledge as well as her personal walk with God. As I told her, I always find myself either nodding profusely while reading her posts or chewing on something that I hadn’t thought of before. If you have never had the opportunity to read Alice’s posts, cozy in because you’ll want to stick around for a while!
For anyone who doesn’t know, as I didn’t a couple months ago, the Liebster Award is given to new bloggers by other bloggers. It is a way to acknowledge and discover new bloggers who are starting out in this crazy adventure and are making a good go at it!
As part of the nomination you are to answer a few questions for the Liebster Award.
What inspired you to start blogging?
For about a year I felt a nudge and a push to find ways to share more of my experience and education from a mental health and Christian viewpoint. I had initial thoughts of attempting to write a book and even started. Twice, in fact. But each time I felt like God was telling me, not yet.
I stumbled upon the crazy idea of a blog at the end of June. I finally felt like God gave me the green light. I started writing in July and pressed the “launch” button on August 19th. Pressing that button was such a vulnerable and exciting moment.
The blog has been live now just under two months and there are days that I wonder what in the world am I doing?! In fact, the day that Alice contacted me to let me know she had nominated me was one of those days. And just like that day, every time I feel overwhelmed or depleted (or both) I receive confirmation from someone through a comment or an email that one of my posts was helpful. I know that this crazy blog thing is the journey I’m supposed to be on currently.
When you have a writer’s block what do you do to work it out?
I try to write my posts a few days a head of when I schedule to publish them. This way I don’t put extra pressure on needing to get a post done that day! If I have writer’s block I go back to my initial outline of why I wanted to share the information with readers in the first place. Usually that helps me get reoriented. If I’m still not feeling it, I will work on images or graphics to get other creative juices flowing. If I’m still not feeling the writing bug then I take a complete break from the computer and spend time with my hubby and kids.
What advice would you give other bloggers?
Don’t forget your ‘why’. Keep writing! Don’t give up! Seek help and ask others for good resources. Enjoy the community of other bloggers and build relationships. Work to promote your blog but don’t get too caught up in the numbers. (I’m still working on that one!) Overnight success doesn’t happen so keep writing!
My nominations
Kristina Gorr at Messy Tired Love – She writes great devotionals and keeps her posts genuine and humorous.
Meghann Jarviss at Bring Us Closer – I just found Meghann’s blog the other day and it’s wonderful. She also has a new book out Bring Us Closer: Scripture Based Life Lessons for Kids
Emily McNeill Wood at Splashes of Joy – I love the honesty she brings to her posts and the encouragement she gives to others!
Jessica Davis at Couch Crumbs – Jessica has great content and a great heart for God even through all life has thrown at her.
Katie at Hospitable Homemaker – I enjoy Katie’s energy and passion for God in every one of her posts!
