Inexpensive Dates with Your Spouse
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and with that date usually comes the commercials, ads, and coupons for extravagant outings and dates.
It can feel overwhelming and even disappointing for the penny pinching families. (Like mine!) We are a one income family and can’t justify spending significant money on one evening.
But that doesn’t mean we don’t love each other and want to spend time together. It would just be nice to do it on the cheap!
So the following list can be done all year round with “inexpensive” being under $25.
Stay Home Ideas
- Rent the first movie you ever watched together.
- Cook a meal together.
- Read a book out loud to each other.
- Do a puzzle.
- Listen to a marriage podcast together and then discuss.
- Complete a project.
- Make out.
- Play a board game.
- Slow dance to your wedding song.
- Tickle and wrestle each other.
- Share a bottle of wine.
- Plan a getaway for your next big anniversary.
- Have a pillow fight.
- Make love.
- Have a Netflix marathon.
Outdoor Ideas
- Go for a walk.
- Take a bike ride.
- Have a bonfire.
- Star gaze.
- Find a drive-in movie.
- Go camping. (extra snuggling may be necessary depending upon where you live!)
- Do an adventurous activity.
- Walk through a park.
- Play tag – chase each other!
- Have a picnic.
- Go site seeing in your own city.
- Have an outdoor photo shoot together.
- Go bird watching.
- Play catch or throw a Frisbee.
- Run together.
Attractions
- Browse a bookstore with coffees.
- Find a local museum.
- Go out to eat for a shared appetizer.
- Go to an ice cream shop.
- Play a round of miniature golf.
- Find a penny or nickel arcade.
- Go to the theater during the day for cheaper tickets.
- Talk in a coffee shop.
- Go bowling.
- Visit a candy store.
- Workout together at the YMCA. (One day passes are usually about $10 a person)
- Get a day pool pass at a local hotel.
- Go out for breakfast.
- Go rollerskating or ice skating.
- Find a petting zoo.
I hope a few of these date options strike your fancy and allow you and your spouse to enjoy your time together.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
God bless!

Great ideas, Melissa. My hubby and I like to get something to eat and then hang out at bookstore like Barnes and Noble. We can work on projects, look at magazines or books and get coffee and a treat. It’s just about being together. Love your list. – Amy

That’s sounds like something my husband and I would enjoy, too! We like to make french press coffee at our house and then sit together in our 3 season’s room either talking together, listening to podcasts, or even reading our own books. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. God bless!

Great ideas! Jon and I have been married for over 40 years and still love dating each other. We do some of these things, but I’m adding others to our list! Thank you!

Number 15 of stay home events will be me tonight; Netflix series! Hello valentines for singles! π

Thankfully God is our ultimate Valentine! His love is perfect and unconditional. No chocolate necessary! π God bless!

I like inexpensive especially because I have to pay for a sitter (which usually is my daughter but still she charges)
Sometimes the free date ideas are more fun than a paid date!

Ha! We’ve never actually gotten a babysitter. We’ve either waited until we could utilize grandparents (pretty hard when we lived 5-6 hours away) or we focused on ways to spend time together after the kids went to bed or when they were playing. Creativity with time is key! Thank you for stopping by and sharing your experiences. God bless!

I love these! My husband and I got married very young and so we’ve always had to keep money tight. (And Valentine’s Day just happens to come after Christmas and my youngest daughter’s birthday! Ah!) I love having simple dates either at home or doing something like going to the park or even going for a drive. It doesn’t take much to make us happy because we started out with so little! βΊοΈ Thank you for sharing these.
melissa
I’m a pretty easy to please, too! I enjoy just spending time with my husband it doesn’t have to be fancy. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your experience. God bless!

Love thrives in simplicity that luxury and glamor. Loved the way you have jotted down such beautiful tips to keep love in action but not with tediousness.

Yes love doesn’t need to be over complicated by expensive or frivolous dates. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. God bless!

When my hubby and I first got together we were both working as interns so even then we didn’t have much to spare for lavish dates, and I really wasn’t that keen on a relationship to start with, so the pressure of a date would have been too much for me – so he would invite me to his folks’ place to build a 6000 piece puzzle! It was a great, no pressure, fun task to do together – and pretty frugal too! As it happens, it was a successful plan – we’ve been blissfully married over 11 years now. We never did finish that puzzle – but we do have it stashed away for a rainy day when we complete it with our 3 kids!
melissa
That’s such a fun story! My husband and I have never spent significant amounts of money on each other for gifts or expensive dates. We could never justify the money and we just enjoy each other’s company. We’re coming up on 11 years of marriage this May. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your experience. God bless!
